Mtumbuka urges government to reserve opportunities for persons with disabilities

Rumphi Central Member of Parliament Matthews Mtumbuka has urged government to introduce special quotas for persons with disabilities in key programmes to improve their access to opportunities.

Mtumbuka says persons with disabilities often struggle to benefit from government initiatives because they compete with the general population for limited opportunities.

Speaking at Rumphi Teachers Training College during a luncheon organised by the Jane Ansah Foundation, Mtumbuka proposed that public universities reserve places for students with disabilities.

He also called for dedicated allocations for the group in programmes such as farm input subsidies and social protection initiatives.

Mtumbuka said the measures would help address inequalities and promote the social and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities.

He also commended Vice President Jane Mayemu Ansah SC for attending the event, saying her presence demonstrated commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities.
