A board member of the Cannabis Regulatory Authority (CRA), David Chikomeni Chirwa, has been arrested by police at Jenda in Mzimba for allegedly being found in possession of suspected Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as chamba, without a permit.
Chirwa, 49, a renowned Rastafarian, was arrested yesterday alongside 45-year-old Storm Kandodo of Mpulula Village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka District.
According to Jenda Police Station spokesperson Gladwell Simwaka, officers manning a roadblock at Jenda intercepted the pair while they were travelling in a Toyota Sienta from Lilongwe towards Mzuzu.
A search of the vehicle allegedly led to the discovery of 19.2 kilograms of the suspected Cannabis Sativa.
The two are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa without a permit. Police have since seized the suspected drugs.
