Malawi is set to receive 450 new schools, clinics and vocational training centres under a fully funded initiative by the African Hero Foundation and its partners.
The commitment, announced in Gaborone, Botswana, covers 300 schools, 100 clinics and 50 vocational training schools across Malawi.
African Hero Foundation Co-Founder, Zunaid Moti, said Jindal Power Group, in partnership with the Moti Group, will fully finance the initiative across Africa.
Foundation Chairperson, Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko, said Malawi was selected as the second beneficiary country after Botswana due to its political stability, peace and good governance.
The facilities are expected to be modern and environmentally friendly, with the initiative supporting President Arthur Peter Mutharika’s vision of having schools and health facilities within communities across the country.
Second Vice President Enock Kanzingeni Chihana, who represented President Mutharika at the foundation’s unveiling, said government will not bear the construction costs.
He said government will instead be responsible for recruiting teachers and health workers and maintaining the completed facilities.
Malawi has also been invited to sit on the board of the African Hero Foundation.
The government has welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major boost to the country’s education, healthcare and skills development sectors.
