Capital FM has joined the nation in mourning the death of veteran journalist and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director General Brian Banda.
Banda was a familiar voice and face at Capital FM, where he hosted some of the station’s flagship programmes, including Sunday Roundtable, Capital Straight Talk and Newstalk.
He had a distinguished career in journalism and broadcasting, having also worked for the Times Group as well as serving as Presidential Press Officer for two former presidents, Joyce Banda and Lazarus Chakwera.
Banda was appointed MBC Director General in March 2026.
His death has sent shockwaves across Malawi’s media fraternity, with colleagues describing him as a courageous, dedicated and influential journalist who made a positive contribution to the country’s media landscape.
Capital FM extends its deepest condolences to the Banda family, friends, colleagues and the wider media fraternity.
