Chitipa Police Station has recorded a 1.6 percent decrease in crime in the first half of 2026, with 189 cases registered compared to 192 cases recorded during the same period in 2025.
This was revealed during the presentation of crime reports at the Station Executive Forum (SEF), conducted by the station together with stakeholders in the district.According to the report, homicide cases decreased by 25 percent, breaking by nine percent, theft by 17 percent and assault by eight percent.
However, there was an increase in sexual cases by 73 percent, robbery cases by 40 percent and other cases by 18 percent, compared to the same period in 2025.
On road accidents, fatal accidents decreased by 60 percent while minor accidents decreased by 83 percent. However, serious accidents increased by 100 percent.
Speaking during the presentation of the report, Chitipa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moses Chibwe called on all stakeholders to collaborate with the police for the good of the district.
Chibwe further thanked chiefs, the general public and other stakeholders for supporting the police in their daily activities. He urged stakeholders to always approach the police whenever they have any issues, stressing that it is a modern police service and not a force.
He, however, highlighted challenges such as mobility, manpower, finances and shortages of housing as some of the factors affecting efforts to combat crime.
In his remarks, District Commissioner for Chitipa, Charles Mhone promised that the district council would consider construction of police units and housing under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and engage government officials from Tanzania and Zambia in addressing cross-border crime.
On her part, Station Executive Committee Chairperson Tsala Msokwa urged chiefs and stakeholders to be at the forefront on reducing crime.
Msokwa then encouraged them to protect children from various forms of abuse and sensitize villagers on the dangers of excessive borrowing and drunkenness, saying these contribute to suicide cases.
She also advised stakeholders at the meeting to assist in engaging motorcycle operators on road regulations.
In their concluding remarks, Senior Chiefs Kameme, Mwaulambia, and Nthalire promised to continue supporting the police.They further said that criminals reside in villages and therefore urged their fellow chiefs to sensitize their people on the dangers of criminal behaviour.
