National Bank of Malawi (NBM) PLC has donated MK24 million to Parliament to support the upcoming Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Malawi will host the 55th CPA Africa Region Conference and AGM from 9 to 16 August.
According to NBM Head of Corporate Banking, Benard Masi, the sponsorship reflects the bank’s longstanding relationship with Parliament and recognises the significance of hosting the regional conference.
“As Malawi welcomes delegates from across the continent, we have an opportunity not only to host a successful conference but also to showcase our country’s warmth, hospitality, rich culture and democratic maturity. At National Bank of Malawi PLC, we are proud to contribute to making that possible,” he said.
The MK24 million sponsorship will be used to procure traditional conference bags for delegates attending the event from across Africa.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Sameer Suleman, has commended National Bank of Malawi for its contribution towards hosting the 55th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Africa Region Conference and AGM.
“As this is a regional conference, it offers the country an opportunity to benefit from more than 300 delegates in various ways. These delegates from 19 countries will spend money in our economy, stimulating growth in the hospitality, transport and local business sectors,” Suleman said.
Suleman has since pledged that Parliament will use the funds prudently.
