Power cuts to ease significantly by December- Energy Minister

Minister of Energy Jean Mathanga has assured Malawians that power cuts will reduce significantly by December this year.

She made the assurance on Tuesday while touring Nkula power station, where works are under way to increase generation capacity.

The visit comes as continued power outages affect businesses and households across the country.

Mathanga said she was impressed with progress so far, and that 20 megawatts will be restored to the national grid before the end of October.

Chief Executive Officer of the Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO), William Liabunya, said some parts for the machines being repaired are due to arrive in the country on Thursday.
