Second Vice President Enock Kanzingeni Chihana has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring affordable and decent housing for all Malawians following a meeting with the Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) management in Lilongwe.
During the meeting, led by MHC Chief Executive Officer Bob Chimkango, the two discussed accelerating affordable housing delivery, expanding housing financing options and strengthening public-private partnerships to help address the country’s housing deficit in line with the Malawi 2063 agenda.
Chimkango outlined the corporation’s ongoing and planned housing projects, including dedicated housing schemes for civil servants aimed at improving staff welfare and retention in the public service.
He also said MHC is rolling out affordable housing models in urban and peri-urban areas through flexible financing arrangements.
Chihana encouraged the corporation to explore both local and international financing opportunities and develop sustainable funding models that maximise land use while fulfilling its mandate of providing affordable and decent housing to Malawians.
