Member of Parliament for Rumphi Central Constituency and running mate to the UTM Party president in the 2025 General Elections, Engineer Dr Mathews Mtumbuka, has described the late Senior Chief Fukamapiri of Nkhata Bay as a pillar of peace and a father full of wisdom.
Mtumbuka said this on Wednesday when he visited and consoled the bereaved family at Kande in Nkhata Bay.
He described the late Senior Chief as one of his advisors, saying he learnt a lot from him whenever they met.
Mtumbuka said the late traditional leader played an important role in promoting peace and unity, adding that his death was a great loss to the community.
“I have lost a father who was full of wisdom. He was one of my advisors, and whenever I met him, I learnt a lot from him,” said Mtumbuka.
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Group Village Headman Mgomo thanked Dr Mtumbuka for visiting and supporting the family during the difficult period.
He said such gestures were important because many people only come to attend funerals, while few take the time to provide comfort and support to the bereaved family.
“It is very rare that while you are mourning, you receive help and comfort from such types of people because many people just come for the burial,” said GVH Mgomo.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Nkhata Bay South Constituency, Hon. Emily Chinthu Phiri, said the community had lost a father and counsellor who always comforted her during difficult times.
She said she would greatly miss his advice and guidance.
“We have lost a father and a counsellor who always comforted me during hard times. I will miss his advice,” said Chinthu Phiri.
Among those present during the visit were former Member of Parliament for Nkhata Bay Central Ralph Mhone and Nkhata Bay District Commissioner David Gondwe.
The late Senior Chief Fukamapiri VII is expected to be buried on Friday, 28 August 2026.
