Football analysts say the 2026/27 FDH Bank Premiership is shaping up to be one of the most exciting and competitive seasons in years, crediting the league’s new financial package for the intensity on display.
The excitement follows a new five-year, MK5 billion sponsorship deal between Super League of Malawi and FDH Bank, ending the league’s long-standing partnership with TNM.
The agreement has doubled the champions’ prize money to MK200 million, raising the stakes for every club in the top flight.
Analyst Parry Chinyama in an interview with Capital FM said the league looks very competitive this season.
He praised surprise pace-setters Blue Eagles alongside traditional giants Bullets, Wanderers, and Silver Strikers, noting that goal difference alone separates several teams on the log.
“The competition looks very, very highly competitive. For sure this is a result of the MK200 million that is at stake for the winners,” he said.
Football stories writer and FAM D-license holder Erik Chiputula agreed that there is “no clear favourite” for the title, saying the tight gap between clubs means any result can reshape the standings as the season progresses.
As of week nine, just four points separate the top seven teams, with Blue Eagles and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets leading on 19 points, Wanderers and Silver on 18, and Ekhaya, Red Lions, and Masters FC on 15.
At the other end, Chiputula warned that Kamuzu Barracks, Creck Sporting, and Dedza Dynamos face mounting relegation pressure and must start earning points urgently.
