Vice President Jane Ansah has called for greater compassion and support for cancer patients, stressing the need to provide them with hope as they battle the disease.

Ansah made the remarks at the National Cancer Centre at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe, where she visited and cheered cancer patients as part of Mother’s Day celebrations.

As a cancer survivor, she said cancer is a painful disease that requires care, compassion and emotional support from society.

She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to all Malawians, in line with the right to life enshrined in the country’s Bill of Rights.

Meanwhile, KCH Director Dr Amos Msekandiana said the hospital has adequate equipment to support cancer patients during treatment.

The National Cancer Centre at KCH provides specialised care for people living with cancer in Malawi.
