Second Vice President Enock Kanzingeni Chihana has reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to the Decent Work Agenda during a meeting with International Labour Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo in Lilongwe.
The two discussed job creation, youth employment, skills development, labour migration governance and social protection, with Chihana thanking the ILO for its continued support in skills training, labour administration and the fight against child labour.
He also called for stronger cooperation to help Malawi respond to the changing world of work driven by technology, artificial intelligence and climate change.
Houngbo commended Malawi’s commitment and pledged the ILO’s continued support in modernising labour policies and creating decent jobs.
He is currently touring ILO member states ahead of the organisation’s elections, in which he is seeking a second five-year term.
Malawi has endorsed his re-election.
