Super League of Malawi (SULOM) President Brigadier General Gilbert Mittawa has endorsed Fleetwood Haiya for a second term as Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President ahead of the association’s elections in December 2027.
Speaking in his personal capacity, Mittawa said Haiya has performed beyond expectations since taking office in December 2023 and deserves another term to continue implementing his vision for Malawian football.
He, however, clarified that his endorsement does not represent the official position of SULOM, explaining that the body has not yet discussed the 2027 FAM elections as it is currently preparing for its own elections, scheduled for early 2027.
Mittawa’s endorsement adds to a growing list of supporters backing Haiya’s re-election bid.
The FAM President has already received endorsements from the Beach Soccer Association and all four regional football associations: Central, Northern, Eastern, and Southern.
Haiya was elected FAM President in December 2023, succeeding Walter Nyamilandu, who had led the association for 19 years.
