High Court rejects bid to withdraw financial crimes case against Lin Yunhua

The High Court’s Financial Crimes Division has dismissed an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to withdraw criminal proceedings against businessman Lin Yunhua.

In a ruling delivered on Monday, Justice Redson Kapindu rejected the prosecution’s request to discontinue the case after two State witnesses had already testified.

Lin is facing multiple charges, including alleged corrupt practices with a public officer, abuse of office and abuse of public office.

The prosecution alleges that while on remand at Maula Prison, he offered financial and other benefits to the prison officer-in-charge to influence the judicial officer handling his criminal case in an attempt to secure a lighter sentence.

Lin has denied all the charges.

The DPP had sought to discontinue the case, saying the alleged misconduct involving prison officials would instead be handled through administrative processes.

However, Justice Kapindu dismissed the application, allowing the criminal trial to proceed.
