Ireen Navicha still in Miss World race

Malawi’s representative at Miss World, Ireen Navicha, remains in contention for the crown despite her name being absent from the recently released Top 60 Model list.

The omission sparked speculation that Malawi had been eliminated from the competition. However, Miss Malawi officials have clarified that the list relates to one of several challenge events being held ahead of the main Miss World competition.

Miss Malawi official Godfrey Kambewa, in recent interview with local media, explained that the Top 60 Model challenge is only one of the routes through which contestants can secure a place in the Top 40 of the main competition.

He said there are several other challenges, including the public voting challenge, a cooking challenge and a sports-related challenge. Each of these challenges will produce a contestant who advances to the Top 40.

Kambewa stressed that the final Top 40 lineup will only be confirmed on the day of the main Miss World competition, scheduled for 5 September.

He therefore said Navicha still has a strong chance of advancing and competing for the Miss World crown.
