MLW Adopts New Strategic Focus to Tackle Malawi’s Health ChallengesMLW Adopts New Strategic Focus to Tackle Malawi’s Health Challenges
The Malawi Liverpool Wellcome (MLW) Research Programme has effected changes to its operations and rebranded as part of a new strategic partnership with the Wellcome Trust aimed at strengthening health research in Malawi and across Africa.
Speaking during a press briefing in Blantyre, MLW Director Professor Henry Mwandumba said the institution’s new strategic plan will focus on four key research areas over the next decade to ensure its work has a greater impact on the health of Malawians.
Mwandumba said priority will be placed on research into the health effects of climate change, maternal and neonatal health, and mental health, among other areas identified under the strategy.
He noted that these remain major public health challenges and require more evidence-based research to help inform effective interventions and policy responses.
