FAM to Refund Fans for Cancelled Malawi-Equatorial Guinea World Cup Qualifier

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that it will refund supporters who purchased tickets for the cancelled 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Malawi and Equatorial Guinea.
In a media release issued today, FAM said ticket holders with unredeemed tickets will be eligible for refunds following the cancellation of the match, which had been scheduled for 18 October 2025 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The fixture was called off five hours before kick-off after Equatorial Guinea informed FAM and FIFA that the team would not travel to Malawi.
FAM said refunds for online ticket purchases will be sent directly to the mobile wallets used during payment and holders of physical tickets have been asked to visit FAM offices at Bingu National Stadium between 2 and 4 June for ticket validation and processing.
The association has also given supporters the option of using the tickets for the Flames’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches scheduled for September 2026 instead of claiming refunds.
FAM said the decision follows an internal review of the matter and is intended to provide fair consideration to supporters affected by the cancellation.
