MSE posts marginal gain as PCL lifts market

The Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE) registered a slight gain on Tuesday, with the Malawi All Share Index (MASI) rising by 29.53 points to close at 522,944.47 from 522,914.94 in the previous trading session.

The market’s positive performance was driven by Press Corporation (PCL) pcl, the only counter to register a gain during the day.

PCL’s share price rose by 0.23 percent from K9,500.02 to K9,521.75.

The Domestic Share Index also increased by 27.74 points to 390,246.75, while the Foreign Share Index declined slightly by 1.46 points to close at 95,722.43.

Trading activity remained robust, with investors executing 77 trades valued at K10.45 billion involving more than 28.5 million shares.

Despite the overall gain, several listed companies recorded marginal share price declines.

Airtel Malawi plc fell by 0.03 percent to K111.21, while NICO Holdings plc and NBS Bank plc dropped by 0.02 percent and 0.01 percent, respectively.

FDH Bank plc, FMB Capital Holdings plc, Standard Bank Malawi plc and National Bank of Malawi also posted slight losses during the session.

Standard Bank Malawi plc recorded the highest trading volume, with more than three million shares exchanged.

Press Corporation plc followed with 20,705 shares traded, while FMB Capital Holdings plc and Airtel Malawi plc recorded 15,283 and 11,443 shares traded, respectively.

The latest trading session reflects continued investor activity on the local bourse, despite mixed performances across listed counters.
