Malawi is seeking to unlock more investment in the mining and energy sectors after President Arthur Peter Mutharika held talks with former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Malawi Government and the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, with discussions centred on attracting investment into sectors considered key to the country’s economic growth.
According to President Mutharika, the institute has expressed its readiness to support Malawi’s efforts to mobilise investments, particularly in mining and energy.
“My administration remains committed to fostering partnerships that advance our national agenda of prosperity and sustainable development,” Mutharika said.
The engagement comes as Malawi continues pursuing partnerships aimed at accelerating economic transformation through increased investment, infrastructure development and sustainable resource utilisation.
The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change works with governments around the world to support policy reforms and drive economic development initiatives.
