Ntcheu woman arrested over alleged sexual assault of 13-year-old boy

Police in Ntcheu have arrested a 22-year-old woman, Rachael Phiri, for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old boy in connection with a K500 debt.

Ntcheu Police spokesperson Jacob Khembo says Phiri, who works at a bar, had earlier asked the boy to leave a table for her landlord, promising to pay him K500.

According to Khembo, the boy repeatedly asked Phiri to settle the debt, but she failed to do so.

Police say that on 6 September, Phiri allegedly told the boy that she had no money to pay him, before having sex with him.

The boy reportedly kept the matter to himself until 19 September, when he developed injuries to his private parts and told his mother.

The mother reported the matter to YONECO officials in Ntcheu, who later referred the case to police.

Phiri is expected to appear before court to answer a charge of having sex with a minor.

Police say investigations are continuing.
