President Peter Mutharika and First Lady Gertrude Mutharika have congratulated the Malawi Scorchers for reaching their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final.
In a message (also shared by the first cittizen) celebrating the team’s historic achievement, the First Lady described the qualification as a landmark moment for Malawi, following the Scorchers’ 3-1 victory over Algeria in the semi-final.
Mutharika said the team has made history as the first debutant nation to reach the final of the continental tournament.
The first couple encouraged the Scorchers to remain focused as they now stand just one match away from lifting the WAFCON trophy, urging them to bring the title home.
The President and the First Lady have also hailed the team for making the country proud through their impressive campaign in Morocco.
