Six arrested over illegal mining in Chitipa

Police in Chitipa have arrested six individuals suspected of engaging in illegal mining.‎‎

The six are Blessings Mwanjawe from Chikwawa, Wyson Mangani from Machinga, John Robert from Phalombe, and Lazaro Silumbu, Clement Sichali and Watson Sikwese from Chitipa.‎‎

According to Chitipa Police Station spokesperson Rabson Mkandawire, officers made the arrests after gathering intelligence indicating that the suspects were conducting illegal mining activities in Binoni Forest along the Chambo River in the district.

‎‎Mkandawire says all six suspects will appear before court soon after the completion of paperwork.‎‎

Meanwhile, police in the district have warned members of the public against engaging in illegal activities, stressing that the law will not spare anyone found in violation.
