Retired Standard Bank director Alan Chinula donates K10 million learning materials to Mzimba school

Retired Standard Bank Plc board director Alan Chinula has donated learning materials worth K10 million to Milala Primary School in Mzimba District as part of the bank’s Corporate Social Investment programme for retiring directors.

Chinula, who served on the Standard Bank board for 14 years, selected the donation as his legacy project after retiring, with the bank supporting the initiative under its policy that allows retiring directors to choose a K10 million corporate social responsibility project.

Mwafulirwa: Mr. Chinula has served the bank with distinction

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Wednesday, Standard Bank Mzimba Branch Manager Robert Mwafulirwa said the donation reflects Chinula’s commitment to education and community development.

“Mr. Chinula has served Standard Bank with distinction, integrity and a deep commitment to the development of Malawi. As he bows out of active service, he has chosen to leave a legacy not just in banking, but in the community by investing in education,” said Mwafulirwa.

He said the learning materials will help improve the quality of education at the school while encouraging learners to pursue their dreams.

“These books and materials are yours. Use them well. Read hard. Dream big. One day, you could be sitting where Mr. Chinula is sitting today, leading institutions and giving back to your community,” he told the learners.

Mwafulirwa added that Standard Bank remains committed to investing in education, health and enterprise, saying supporting learners is an investment in Malawi’s future.
