Israeli settlers have been accused of setting fire to two mosques, vehicles and agricultural land in the occupied West Bank, as tensions continue to rise following a deadly clash between settlers and Palestinians that left six people dead.
Palestinian officials say attacks were reported in several villages, with cars vandalised, property stolen and hate messages sprayed on walls. In Qusra, local authorities said a mosque under construction was set on fire, while another mosque in Kour was also reportedly targeted.
The Israeli military said troops were deployed to the affected areas and that police were investigating the incidents. Israeli authorities have not confirmed responsibility for the attacks but said evidence would be collected as part of the investigations.
The violence follows a confrontation near the village of Tal, where four Palestinians and two Israelis were killed. Both Palestinians and Israelis have accused each other of provoking the deadly encounter.
The West Bank has experienced increasing violence in recent months, with Palestinian officials accusing extremist settlers of carrying out attacks against communities, while Israeli authorities have continued military operations and arrests of Palestinians.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to take what he described as “powerful action” following the Tal incident, as international concern grows over escalating tensions and the impact on civilians in the territory.
