VP Ansah thanks President Mutharika for Vice Presidency as Msusa praises her humility

Vice President Jane Ansah has thanked President Arthur Peter Mutharika for giving her the opportunity to serve as Vice President, saying she will “always be thankful” for his confidence in her.

Speaking during the Archdiocese of Blantyre Catholic Women Association’s annual Umai wa Amai celebrations at Chisitu Parish in Mulanje, Ansah said she remained honoured by Mutharika’s decision to choose her as his running mate ahead of the September 16, 2025 presidential election.

“I will always be thankful to President Mutharika for choosing me as his running mate and giving me this opportunity to serve as Vice President of the Republic of Malawi,” said Ansah.

She also urged people not to believe what she described as fake news circulating on social media, saying respecting national leadership is consistent with her Christian faith.

Ansah further called for continued efforts to create opportunities for women to serve in different positions, urging them to work hard in their families, churches, government and other leadership institutions.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Thomas Msusa praised Ansah for what he described as humility after she travelled to Chisitu Parish and joined Catholic faithful for prayers under the sun.

Msusa said he had initially doubted whether Ansah would attend the gathering until he saw her convoy and security detail.

“I was not sure whether she would really come until I saw her convoy and security detail,” said Msusa.

The Archbishop said Ansah’s conduct reminded him of Mother Mary, whom Catholics respect for her faith, perseverance and missionary spirit.

Msusa urged Malawians to reject pride, accept correction, listen to God and remain calm when faced with gossip.

He also encouraged Catholics to participate actively in prayer and leadership within the Church.
