Zambia suspends counting and announcement of election results

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has suspended the counting and announcement of election results following reports of violence in some districts.

The Commission says the violence has targeted polling staff and, in some cases, resulted in the theft of marked ballot papers.

ECZ says the suspension has been made with immediate effect due to the security situation and continued threats of violence across the country.

The Commission says it will review the suspension within 24 hours.
