Embangweni United have finished the first round of the NBS Bank National Division League in fourth position after beating Namitete Zitha 2-0 at Mzuzu Stadium.
The result takes Embangweni United to 20 points and keeps their promotion hopes alive as they look to secure a place in the FDH Bank Premiership.
Embangweni United head coach Dan Lusale says the team needs to maintain consistency and improve its performance in the second round if it is to achieve its promotion ambitions.
“We are still far from the championship. We just have to polish up our mistakes in our next matches,” Lusale said.
The coach said the team has performed strongly at home, winning all its home matches, while recording one away win and one away draw.
“We have won all our home games, we have won one away and also drawn one away. In the second round, we need to work extra hard, especially in away matches,” he said.
Embangweni United have six away matches and five home matches to play in the second round.
Meanwhile, Namitete Zitha coach Enock Mhone expressed dissatisfaction with the refereeing during the match, claiming that poor decisions contributed to his team’s defeat.
“They gave away a very clear offside goal, and on many occasions, we were being caught offside when there was no offside,” Mhone said.
