Kasungu District Council has handed over six motorcycles and 10 bicycles to field staff to boost conservation efforts in the Chawa Forest Reserve under Traditional Authority Simlemba.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, District Commissioner Lawford Palani said the motorcycles will help field staff overcome mobility challenges encountered while monitoring the forest reserve and carrying out conservation activities.
Palani has since stressed the need for the officers to use the motorcycles for their intended purpose in order to support forest conservation efforts.
Meanwhile, Assistant Forest Officer Gasten Gama has commended Kasungu District Council for providing the motorcycles, saying the development will enhance mobility and strengthen efforts to monitor and protect the forest reserve.
Kasungu District Council is implementing the four-year European Union-funded Ulimi ndi Chilengedwe (UCHI) Project, which aims to conserve the 523-hectare Chawa Forest Reserve in Traditional Authority Simlemba through improved land governance, forest restoration, and soil conservation activities.
