Opposition presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has declared himself the winner of Thursday’s presidential election in Zambia, challenging incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema.
Under Tonse Alliance, Mundubile, who was Hichilema’s main challenger, made the declaration as vote counting continued across the country.
However, the Electoral Commission of Zambia has not yet officially declared a winner.
The Commission has also suspended the counting and announcement of results amid reports of violence and the theft of marked ballot papers.
Official results are expected after the electoral process resumes.
