Swift Capital, GadgetZone launch asset financing to bridge technology access gap

Microfinance institution Swift Capital Growth Partners and technology retailer GadgetZone M Limited have announced a strategic Asset Financing Partnership aimed at making quality electronics more accessible to Malawians.

The partnership will allow customers to acquire smartphones, laptops and other gadgets through a structured lease-to-own facility rather than paying upfront cash.

Under the arrangement, customers will access financing through Swift Capital’s flagship product, Yaphweka with the institution taking the responsibility to purchase the selected device on behalf of the customer, who will take possession immediately and repay in monthly instalments.

Speaking on the partnership, GadgetZone managing director Simeon Richard Kuntambila said: “We started GadgetZone because we believe more people should be able to access quality technology. A phone, laptop or other device can make a real difference in someone’s work, studies or day-to-day life, but paying the full amount upfront can be a barrier. Our partnership with Swift Capital gives eligible customers another way to access the technology they need.

“The partnership is anchored on what the partners call the Triple A Strategy — making technology Affordable through income-aligned instalments, Available at the point of sale and Accessible through a simplified application process.”

Swift Capital Growth Partners was founded in 2024 and is backed by Swift Capital Holdings.

Operating under the brand promise ‘Finance For The People’, it focuses on individuals and micro and small enterprises often underserved by traditional banking institutions.

On the other hand, GadgetZone which entered the Malawian market in April this year and is located in Blantyre, was established to address the accessibility and dependability of quality technology.

Industry analysts note that electronics retail in the country has been predominantly cash-based, leaving consumers with limited alternatives.

The new offering introduces a regulated, transparent Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) option that is already reshaping retail globally.

The partners said the facility is available to eligible salaried employees, civil servants, traders and small business owners, with applications processed in-store at GadgetZone.
